THE TRIQUETRA OF OUR FAITH COMMUNITY
- Transformation (journey to love God)
- Connection (share life…discover together)
- Compassion (love others and to be loved)
Position on Worship Gathering
“Worship is the point. It’s the most central element of our existence as a church community. If we fail to worship God we miss our purpose. But worship is also a mean. It is primarily through worshiping that we are transformed, that we become who we are created to be. Our desire for Journey Church is to become a worshiping community . Our primary common experience will be gathering together for regular times of worship that find their source in God’s Word, are shaped by Early Church practice and teaching, are in harmony with the Nazarene tradition, and fully engage our culture.” Exodus 24:1-8
Position on Village
Relationships sit at the core of our human existence. And they should. We have been created from, and are created for, relationship. God’s intent is that life is lived out through community. In our Villages you will find opportunity for both relational connection and for spiritual formation. With the Bible as our centerpiece, we engage in spiritual dialogue and discussion, looking for ways to encourage and spur one another toward living life according to God’s design.
A Village is a small group consisting of 8-14 people, which meet together in various locations throughout our communities. With the Gospel at our center the Village is simply a safe place, where one can experience honesty and authenticity beneath the surface of religion. Each Village looks different from the other. The Village may choose to use a book on or from the Bible to read as a study, others may choose to use video curriculum, while others may find that meeting together as a fellowship and growing as a faith based community is what is truly needed. As connection happens, relationships develop, life is shared and transformation takes place in our journey of faith together.
Why join a Village? God has designed us to live life in community. In our Villages you will find opportunity for both relational connection and for spiritual formation. Our life together is experienced through our Villages in three ways: (1) We are challenged to be transformed by God’s leading in His Word and by His Spirit (2) We will be connecting as families to help one another in our faith journey (3) We will serve our local communities through compassion.
Everyone who partners with Roseville Church Community of the Nazarene is served and serves through this Village structure.
Position on Baptism
“We believe that Christian baptism, commanded by our Lord, is a sacrament signifying acceptance of the benefits of the atonement of Jesus Christ, to be administered to believers and declarative of their faith in Jesus Chris as their Savior, and full purpose of obedience in holiness and righteousness. Baptism is a symbol of the new covenant made with Jesus.”
Matthew 26:26-29 and John 6:28-58.
Position on Communion
We believe that the Memorial and Communion Supper instituted by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is essentially a New Testament sacrament, declarative of His sacrificial death, through the merits of which believers have life and salvation and promise of all spiritual blessings in Christ. Journey Church recognizes the best fit for our community is found in the understanding of consubstantiation, by-which indicates that on consecration, the elements do not change completely into the body and blood of Christ, rather he is present ‘in, with and under’ them.
Position on Hospitality
We recognize that every person who comes to church has a common need to be accepted. To a visitor, genuine friendliness and an attentive community are important qualities of a church and guests seem to know immediately if they are in a place of welcome and acceptance. We understand it might be difficult to join a community where everyone is comfortable with their own routines and their own acquaintances. We seek to overcome this for our guests by creating a warm, inviting place for everyone who enters our place of worship. Journey Church wants to bring honor and glory to God by providing a warm spirit and friendliness to all attendees so that each person will feel genuine affection, and visitors will want to return.
Position on Evangelism
Journey Church desires a non-obtrusive, non-aggressive way of evangelism. We invest the bulk of our time, energy and money not on advertising or events but on relationship building; helping our church community become aware of including their friends and family. We feel our growth as a church community is in friends bringing friends and inviting them to share our story and journey. The reason behind this is that we emphasize the potential convert’s bond with the body of Christ and not with the institution. Our desire is that each person comes to know Christ in a real life experience through a real life journey with others.
Position on Compassion
Only the Church community is uniquely created and qualified to understand the real needs within her community and around the world. The Church is God’s chosen instrument to bring hope to those places that seem hopeless, wealth of joy to the poor and exemplify mercy to the oppressed around the world. As a Church community it is our focus to bring this kind of compassion to those in Roseville and into places around the world where God leads us to serve.
